The Final Pages of Persephone’s Fall

Well, I’ve finished posting one novella to WordPress … I can’t say it was the easiest experience in the history of man, but it wasn’t the hardest either, and Chapter 7 of Persephone’s Fall has now been posted to the Writing section. Here you’ll find nine pages. I still think Seph’s story is one of the best things I’ve ever written, and I’m still planning on redrafting it at some point. I don’t think there’s likely to ever be much of a market for modern versions of Greek myths, particularly illustrated ones, but I’m not really worried about what the market is.

The key now is to find an illustrator who I love, and who I can actually afford to pay. Who knows … maybe I’ll sell a book or two and be able to accomplish that sometime in the near future.

I hope those of you who are reading the story are enjoying it. It’s one of my favorites, for sure — less personal than Voices (which was an adaptation of one of the oldest stories I’ve written), but I came to like it a lot.

I’m working on a new tutorial – it seems like many of the visitors to this page are coming for that type of contet, so hopefully I’ll have some more for y’all soon!

I’ve posted Chapter 5 of Persephone’s Fall to the Writing section. This is a short chapter – only five pages – but it’s pretty significant for two reasons. For one thing, this was where I figured out exactly what the hell I was doing with this story. It’s worth noting that when I originally posted Persephone’s Fall, I was writing each page the same day that I posted it (along with drawing the pictures). The whole project was a huge experiment in fiction-on-demand. I set myself a schedule, and I stuck to the entire schedule, without pre-writing anything. I missed exactly one update, and in my defense … I spent that day in the emergency room!

The other thing significant about Chapter 5 is that you can actually see the art improve — proof positive that even if you’re a mediocre illustrator at best (which I am), practice and repetition absolutely, unquestionably have an effect on your work. This is pretty much true when it comes to any artistic endeavour, be it illustration, writing, playing the guitar, making movies … doesn’t really matter.

I’ll probably never be happy with my illustration work (in that, it has a lot in common with my guitar playing, my drumming, and quite possibly my photography!) but it’s still fun to push yourself, and to improve.

Anyway … people are reading this story, which blows my mind. It’s getting some traffic every day. Dunno who you are, but I hope you’re enjoying it!

Chapter 4 of Persephone’s Fall Posted

I’ve posted Chapter 4 of Persephone’s Fall to the Writing section. That’d be pages 27 through 32, for those who care. That leaves just three more chapters, a total of 17 pages, left, so we should have that wrapped up pretty soon. Then I guess I’ll start re-posting one of my other novellas!

Got some work done on a novel, today, as well. It’s a first draft, but I’m almost done with it and I’m going to focus on getting it wrapped up this month. I’ve got some interesting stuff going on, on the fiction front, so hopefully I’ll more news about all that soon!

More Persephone’s Fall

I’ve added pages seven through thirteen of Persephone’s Fall, the illustrated novella I wrote a few years ago. You can find the index on my Writing Page. I’ve also renewed my efforts to get my first novel published — I’ve been re-reading it for the first time in quite a while, and I’m pleased to say that I still like it, even after the novelty (no pun intended) of it has worn off completely. That’s a good sign.

More coming, as always. I might take a stab at reviewing the Penny Arcade game soon – but first I have to decide whether my frustrations with it arise from the game itself, or from the way I’m trying to play it.
