Long Island-bound

MattituckCharlotte and I are headed out to Long Island with several of our friends for this long weekend. Monday is Labor Day for those of us in the states, and I couldn’t put it any better than Futurama’s own Hermes:

Hermes: “Labor Day? That phoney-baloney holiday crammed down our throats by fatcat union gangsters.”

Fry: “That’s the one.”

Hermes: “Hot damn! A day off!”

We’re going to spend the weekend reading, swimming, drinking, eating, and generally trying not to think about work, or the stresses of our impending wedding, or how we’re never going to be able to afford to buy anything in Brooklyn that’s not swarming with bedbugs and/or falling into the Gowanus canal (that’d be the body of water in which they recently found gonorrhea).

I might also work on the book I’m almost done with, which is listed on the Writing page as being called “The Plains of Tassanna” but which I’ve changed to “The Broken God Machine.” I believe we can all agree that that’s a dramatically more compelling title! It’s also more thematically significant to the novel, so woo-hoo!

Anyway, there will likely be no updates this weekend, but I hope everyone in America has a fantastic holiday and everyone who’s not in America has … as good a Monday as they can. I leave you with a few words from that famous environmentalist and former Vice-President, Al Gore:

PEACE OUT, Y’ALL!
