Night Baseball on the Beach
by chris ~ August 15th, 2008. Filed under: Misc Rambling. We’re going to Coney Island tonight to take in a Brooklyn Cyclones game and, most likely, wander the boardwalk afterward. There’s a chance of rain but hopefully the storms will pass us by and we’ll get to spend the evening in relative warmth and dryness.
Normally I would use this occasion to take a ton of photos, but I am still camera-less, so I had to borrow a nice one from Flickr. Thanks, wallyg!
Charlotte’s never been to a baseball game, but of the primary American sports that I sometimes force her to watch (Basketball and Football being the other two), it’s her favorite, mainly because the pace of the game is so absurdly slow that she is able to follow what’s going on without having to devote every moment of her attention to it.
I haven’t been to a game at a park in a while – I think the last time I went was to an Angel’s game in Anaheim, c2000 … back before they got good and everyone jumped on the bandwagon. They were playing the Yankees, and there were absolutely more Yankee fans there than there were Angel fans (and frankly, there weren’t many fans, period). A far cry from a few years later when they won the world series and were playing host to sell-out crowds.
The best thing about that game was when this peanut vendor threw a pack of peanuts to a dude but his aim was off and he wanged some little eight year old girl in the face with them and it caused a big scene.
This post doesn’t really have a point … which is why it’s going directly in the “misc rambling” category!
Enjoy your weekend!
