Lost in New York

My life sometimes seems like it was specially prepared to demonstrate Murphy’s Law. To wit: it’s not enough that I managed to leave my messenger bag in a cab on Friday night … thus pretty much condemning my Nintendo DS to being sold at some crappy pawn shop by an unscrupulous cab driver. No, that would be bad, but last Friday also happened to be the first day in three months that I decided “hey, I’ll take my digital camera in to work with me today!”
So, end result, I’m not only out a Nintendo DS, two USB memory sticks, a DSTT game catridge and (I think) a USB wireless dongle for my ancient laptop … but I’m also out a Sony DSC-F717 Digital Camera which, while no longer cutting edge, remains one of the best non-DSLR digital cameras ever sold. Now I can either try to eBay a used one for several hundred bucks, or bite the bullet and buy a Nikon D60 DSLR kit for around $700.
The problem here is the whole “getting married in the west village” thing that we’ve got going on this year. It’s awfully hard to justify spending any money right now, let alone the amount it’d take get a new digital camera. Not to mention the DS. And the game cart. And the USB dongle. And so forth.
I’m still calling around to police precincts on the off chance the driver is one of the few cabbies in New York that actually has a soul … but I’m not counting on it. Very frustrating. The moral of the story is: keep your bag strap around your shoulder when you get into a cab!
More Persephone’s Fall coming tonight … been a very busy couple of days and I’ve not had much time to sit at the computer.
